Charlton Heston to meet Moses soon!

Charlton Heston died yesterday. A great actor in the "made in America" style. His role as Moses was considered to be in the epic genre. Now he will be able to swap notes with Moses on the technical standards of the film and ask what it was actually like parting the Red Sea. However, acting apart, Charlton Heston could have made it in politics if he had wanted to. Ronald Reagan was initially denigrated as a B Movie actor, but made the A List as a president.

Although I didn't always follow everything Heston said, I quite liked his stand against political correctness. Political arrogance may be a better expression for this stance taken by the liberal elite and the zealots who run it. Sometimes they verge into political stupidy and are too stupid to realise it.

Charlton Heston said in his autobiography In the Arena, "...the God fearing, law-abiding, Caucasian, middle-class Protestant.....or even worse, evangelical Christian, Midwestern or Southern.......or even worse, rural, apparently straigh.......or even worse, admitted heterosexuals, gun-owning.......or even worse, NRA-card-carrying, average working stiff......or even worse, male working stiff, because, not only don’t you count, you are a down-right obstacle to social progress. Your voice deserves a lower decibel level, your opinion is less enlightened, your media access is insignificant, and frankly, mister, you need to wake up, wise up, and learn a little something from your new-America and until you do, would you mind shutting up?"

A brave New America? Not on Heston's list of dream places. He also said, "If Americans believed in political correctness, we'd still be King George's boys - subjects bound to the British crown." On that, I would sincerely hope NOT! We Brits deserve a constitutional monarchy that definitely does not peddle political correctness. New Labour's moronic genuflection to this creed is to be deplored. And I think George Washington's beef with King George was not over gay rights and new social mores, but over taxation and representation. That matter is still very much alive in Britain today. We need our Boston Tea Party in reverse. We have a chiselling chancellor and a constitutional cock-up! I shall be mugging up on the history books. I may be knocking on Gordon Brown's door saying "I'm the new Paul Revere! Now push off!"

Heston spoke of "Political correctness is tyranny with manners". Where Gordon Brown is concerned, manners may have to take a back seat!
