Brown praises Clooney's leadership!

Gordon Brown knows leadership when he sees it. That is in others and not in himself. Our Prime minister has been talking about Darfur for as long as is humanly possible. Nothing much gets done. George Clooney is a UN Ambassador for peace, and is very much involved in bringing the plight of Darfur to the attention of world leaders.

Brown said the situation in Darfur, which is part of Sudan, was "unacceptable" and praised Mr Clooney's "leadership". He went on to say, ""In February and March alone, fighting displaced 58,000 people. Humanitarian access is limited and Unamid (United Nations African Union Mission in Darfur) deployment is still too slow. The rebels and government continue to openly flout United Nations Security Council resolutions through attacks on civilians. I am grateful for the leadership George Clooney has shown in drawing attention to this crisis - this is a humanitarian tragedy of colossal proportions and the world must take note and act." He then went on to say how the UK is tackling the issue.

This talk, though, is more or less what he said six months ago. In Brown's world, everything is either "robust", like the economy, or "unacceptable" like Darfur. However, nothing really tangible happens.

George Clooney said that a "wonderful suggestion" had been made at the meeting (for buying peacekeeping helicopters). That's the whole point, George! Gordon is full of wonderful suggestions, like abolishing the 10p tax rate, and look where these suggestions have got us!
