Obama and his ratings

"Is that Peeping Tom over there?"
President Obama has let it be known he's running again for the presidency. 2012 will be an olympic year all round. One thing Americans get on a daily basis is a good dose of popularity ratings. Obama has had some of the highest highs and lowest lows. Pundits make a good living out of asking dumb questions to a befuddled nation. No wonder being president is an exacting business. It's not Libya, the debt crisis or the health care business that matters. No, it's the polls, dummy!

And one aspect of the polling business is telling the voters how religious or otherwise the candidates are. I've happened upon this site. Called "GodVoter.org" (as if God was on the ballot paper!) and it goes into detail about a candidate's religious affilations or lack of them. I get a distinct whiff of holier-than-thou mentality creeping in.

Barack Obama gets nobbled for his "unChristian heritage" and his "eccentric beliefs about God". Sarah Palin is upheld as a paragon of "pro-life" virtue. Yet she is not above letting bears of all kinds die in the name of oil exploration. Rather pompously this site says "John McCain identifies himself a Christian but what we have and have not heard from John McCain about his Christian beliefs raises some questions." Cheeky beggars. What business is it of theirs?

I do hope Americans vote for a president on the issues that matter and not on trying to emulate some kind of protestant conscience-prodding excercise. This organisation sounds like it is staffed by window peepers, keen on twitching the curtains. Are they so squeaky clean themselves? Or trying to be like the Pharisees?

One in five "considering" voting BNP!

Every little helps the BNP!Would you Adam 'n Eve it! The BBC has done the BNP proud. Not just by putting Nick Griffin on Question Time, but by allowing a dodgily selected audience (enticed to boo at appropriate moments like a 19th century music hall crowd) and by the fellow guests ganging up on him, thereby making him look "got at".

As Griffin himself says, this parody hardly touched the BNP policies. Now we have, according to Sky News, an opinion poll suggesting that 22% of the British people have allowed their minds to loosen overnight and for them to consider voting BNP. With a crowded field in many constituencies, that could see MPs elected. Now that would turn the House of Commons into a bear pit.

Remember, New Labour, who trumpet the fact that they "won" three general elections in a row, only managed to get 20% of the total electorate's support last time. Put's it into perspective a bit!

The BNP needs to be quizzed not on immigration or race - we know what they stand for there. Let's confront their command and control economic policies and their quick fix law and order solutions. But above all, please, please let the mainstream parties just stop the spinning, deceipt and cronyism. It's just helping to bolster the 22% as they mull over the benefits of a BNP government!

98% of pollsters think 95% of us think like them!

This about sums up the lunacy of people like Lou Dobbs who are actually paid to spout rubbish on TV. But it's not that they're paid so much, it's that they actually think what they are saying is in any way intelligently meaningful. Just listen to the airhead on this Jon Stewart video who can't believe the 100% vote. She just giggles but doesn't gainsay the nonsense of it all. I wonder, if Charles Darwin was alive today, if he'd manage to figure out the evolutionary habits of cable tv pollsters?

Angelina Jolie is ultimate lesbian heroine

Of all papers The Daily Telegraph is featuring a poll of 2,600 lesbians to find out which woman, famous that is, ranked as the world's ultimate lesbian heroine. That's the lesbian world because I don't think it covers the whole world. No more than a poll of 2,600 Top Gear fans voting for the best race round a motor track by Stig would represent the whole world's opinion.

It's all a bit of fun. I'd never have guessed Dolly Parton was in the top twenty at No.20 - she could feature in a whole host of polls including best wig, best cleavage, best singer, best anything. Angelina Jolie comes in at No.1 making her a real icon. But this woman has six kids and knows Brad Pitt intimately (that should be the other way round!). "Angelina was the clear winner; and she also has a dark side which many lesbians like too," said a spokesman for One Poll who carried out he survey.

I'm just wondering who else was on the list. Those in the lower rankings. That could through up all manner of names. But we don't get told. Pity!

Gordon Brown viewed as most disastrous PM!

It's not good reading for Gordon Brown. According to a YouGov poll for the Sunday Times, he's careering into the pit occupied by Ramsay Macdonald and Lord North! Only 2% think he's doing "very well". That's a feeble number of diehard New Labour fantasists! 26% are prepared to say he's doing "fairly well". That's a bit like telling your mother her cake is a bit stodgy.

Against his plaudits come the overwhelming group, 65% who think he's performing "fairly or very badly". So two-thirds of the electorate want him gone is the message. It's not just the Tories complaining of his dithering. Now, the Blairites are chipping in, too.

He waited ten years for Blair to disappear, and now it's all going pearshaped for him (and us, of course!). I think the biscuit-taking came to a head with the 10p tax band abolition, but there are loads of other cockups and crises.

Should we wait another two years with grumpy appearances at the dispatch box, a crumbling economy, and a control-freaked cabinet? My answer is NO!
