One of the problems of blogging is not having a computer that works. It's a bit like having a car break down on you. When I see a screen with something that vaguely looks like a repetitive series of Eqyptian hieroglyphics I sense trouble. I often hear people say, "My computer crashed!" with a hopeful sense that the machine will right itself. Once mine crashed and there was no restorative action. The man who knows had a look at my computer and helpfully said, "That's not meant to be there!", meaning the hieroglyphics. Thankfully it was restored to full working order.
My recent crashing has something to do with having too much trash on the system, so I'm reliably informed. Knowing about computers is a bit like having your say on politics. Facts can be lost in the verbiage. Anyway, I'm confident everything is back to being OK.
So here I am blogging away again!

My Blogaround Moments
I've been looking around some of my Witanagemot liked-minded blogs. There are some good posts on the lacklustre approach of Speaker Martin to the Damian Green Affair, as some are calling it.
Cynical Chatter From The Underworld says that Gordon Brown's declared confidence in the Speaker "is the kiss of death for him, and it isn’t as if anyone else is backing up Gordon Brown by openly stating their confidence in the Speaker." No, it's more a case of the New Priggery Party seeking to suggest they would never make use of leaks.
A Very British Dude has some excellent points on civil liberties I noticed. It's not just the Left that cares for civil liberties, and this is well put in this line - "Many on the left point to Damian Green and David Davis' views on Homosexuality as evidence that they have no deep love of civil Liberties, and they are therefore Hypocrites. In Green's case in particular, this is scraping the barrel. Part of this is Because in Left-wing mythology, no Tory can ever be concerned with anything except tax and Europe, without being called a hypocrite." It's just such times when the New Priggery Party gets all uppity because their pereceived territory is being invaded!
Archbishop Cranmer has uncovered something that the BBC and other missed! That the Queen was apparently reading about her demise as Supreme Governor of the Church of England. Again, the New priggery party is up to its tricks. The Archbishop reveals - "The Bill potentially spells the end of the privileges of the Church of England, the elimination of prayers in Parliament, the end of the Head of State being Supreme Governor of the Church of England, the end of Christian acts of collective worship in schools, the end of restrictive Sunday opening hours, and the embracing of national holidays around non-Christian religious festivals." Is this what we really want? It will mean dismantling the parishes, and the rights of the Church of England to make its own laws (canons). This could mean some tough times ahead for traditionalists, who may find themselves in prison for disobeying the New Priggery Party's diktats!
Man in a Shed - "We should all weep for our country and its misfortune at having the bunch of self interested selfish and ignorant charlatans who current lead Her Majesty's government." Very true. He quotes an economist speaking on the Today Programme. Read it and weep! Or listen and weep! The curse is upon us, the Lady of Chalot.....
And Wonko has a few things to say about the Queen's Speech. I get worked up sometimes about this lot. I know how he feels!

Monday Blog Review
I thought I'd look around the blogs that interest me and share some thoughts.
Cranmer has a good response to his posting about flying bishops in the Church of England. I've added some comments. This topic gets a few breasts beating!
Cranmer has also highlighted The Plan, which is some policy ideas from Daniel Hannan MEP and his ideological soul-mate Douglas Carswell MP. They have a few pointers that I'd go along with. Some I wouldn't. Some we couldn't do if we wanted, such as scrapping VAT. Mr.Euroman would see to that! But primaries for elections - YES so long as it wasn't interminable as in the USA!
Free England has some trenchant opinion about the so-called War in Afghanistan. Personally I support only wars that are in defence of a nation or where a country supports an ally. This is not one of those. I would have thought it self-evident that "we won't win this war" is a truism. The Afghan tribes have been like this since time began. Also, if the poppy crop isn't destroyed and the farmers given something else to do, then the whole thing is futile. I get the feeling that the politicians are fearful of the drug barons, so all this is lip service. What a tragedy!
Smooth Stone smoothly details why he's not supporting Obama. It's a long read, but this Palin thing about terrorists for tea has awoken the John McCain camp a bit.
Little Man in a Toque highlights some of the astounding things happening to us, apart from monitoring crooked bankers. BT is joining forces with the control freaks of this New Labour Regime Part Two to spy on our emails and internet usage. BT? Bloody Trouble!! Also the little Man exposes the Tory muddle on devolution and the sinister labelling of Country Life butter. The PC panderers have renamed it "British Butter" from its original appellation of English Butter. Morons!

Blogger changes!
One thing about blogging, or the whole internet for that matter, is that things keep changing. And changing at a pace that I find mildly alarming. It's a bit like buying a new TV only to find a better model on display the next day.
Blogger have updated again. All very good and I've got no complaints, but it is all a constant learning curve. Will my widgets be there tomorrow, I ask myself. I'm getting used to the new changes.
In some ways, being on the internet is like being a fish in the ocean. Sometimes you can see for miles in clear water, then a ghastly oil slick blocks your view. There are some slippery eels out there, some sharks, some knowledgeable dolphins and some shoals of fish you'd rather avoid. The crabs can give you a nip and the weeds can get you tangled up. But mostly, it's an adventure worth being involved in. I'm pleased it's here!

The Googly Woogly Blues
I thought I'd be clever and change by blog settings. Part of the problem has been the recent choice of template. I thought it was OK but it didn't load up properly. Now I'm no techy geek, but I am not internet challenged either. When Blogger first set up, I joined. Now it's part of Google and I think that's quite fine. But it is a platform in its own image. It doesn't necessarily sit well with other stuff that has been "introduced". A lot of templates are rejected by Blogger, so getting one that fits seems to be part of the package.
This blogging business is all very much self taught for most of us. I remember going out and getting a moped years ago as a late teenager. When I first tried the thing I thought I would never get the hang of it. All too scary! Then bravado kicked in and I got used to it. A top speed of 30 mph suddenly became rather tame. I went at 4o downhill and the engine blew up. Taking it back to the shop, the guy said "You've caned it!". I never got so far as proper motor bikes, but I got a better, faster moped. It's all a bit like that with blogging. I started with fairly boring templates, then tried some fancy new ones. Trouble was I "caned" the last two because they were over-widgeted by me. Now, hoping, I've got a stable one that won't do it's own thing.

A blogger's life!
A blogger's life indeed. One of the joys of modern blogging (as opposed to a couple of years ago, that is) is the number of interesting widgets that you can get. I was keen on Spotplex and thought they were very good. So it is with some sadness that I find today that they have gone offline, closed down. Maybe they were just too good and got big before their time. That can happen. I don't know, but the message has gone out that they have gone. It's a pity as we need all the good ones to survive.
I sort of new something was up when my posts were reacting rather erratically to the visitor counts. Oh well, it's a blogger's life indeed. I genuinely wish them well in the future.
